Pirates Sweep Giants in Stunning Turnaround

PITTSBURGH, PA (AP) – The Pittsburgh Pirates, struggling in last place in the NL East, delivered a stunning sweep over the San Francisco Giants, who entered the series atop the NL West but have now slipped to third place after four consecutive losses. George Sisler led the Pirates with a 3-for-5 performance, while Mule Haas added two hits and two RBIs. Alex Fernandez pitched seven shutout innings, allowing seven hits and striking out nine. Randle Evans and Deacon Phillippe combined to close out the game, with Phillippe earning the save. The Pirates turned two crucial double plays to escape jams.
