Game 1

Expos Outslug Dodgers in Wild 10–8 Series Opener

By GameChanger Media

The bats were hot in Los Angeles Monday night, but the Montreal Expos had just a little more firepower in a back-and-forth slugfest, outlasting the Dodgers 10–8.

Montreal struck first with a bang, as catcher Josh Gibson crushed a three-run homer to center field in the top of the first. Brett Boone followed with a groundout that plated another, giving the Expos an early 4–0 lead.

After Gibson added another two-run homer in the fourth, the Dodgers found themselves in a 6–1 hole. But Los Angeles roared back with a seven-run bottom of the fourth, fueled by five hits and capped off by a Joe Carter two-run double that gave the Dodgers an 8–6 lead.

Montreal responded immediately. George Scott’s RBI double tied the game in the fifth, and Gil McDougald’s RBI single in the sixth, followed by a run-scoring double play, put the Expos back on top for good.

Jim Kaat shut down the Dodgers with 2.1 innings of no-hit relief to earn the win, and Jose Deleon recorded the save. Gibson led the offense with five RBIs, while George Scott collected three hits and two walks.

Joe Carter and Chipper Jones each drove in two for L.A., but Grover Alexander struggled on the mound, giving up 10 runs in five innings.

Game 2

Dodgers Stun Expos with 10th-Inning Rally, Walk Off 6–4

By GameChanger Media

In one of the wildest finishes of the season, the Los Angeles Dodgers rallied for five runs in the bottom of the 10th to steal a 6–4 walk-off win over the Montreal Expos on Tuesday.

Montreal took a 4–1 lead in the top of the 10th thanks to an RBI single from George Scott and another towering blast from Josh Gibson—his third homer in two days.

But the Dodgers refused to fold. Deion Sanders ripped a game-tying two-run double, and Barry Bonds delivered the decisive blow with a walk-off single that plated two more, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

Warren Brusstar picked up the win in relief. The Dodgers racked up 13 hits, led by Lou Whitaker’s 3-for-5 night and Bonds’ two clutch RBIs.

Montreal had nine hits and stole five bases, but couldn’t hold the lead. Jose Deleon took the loss after surrendering four runs in two-thirds of an inning.

Game 3

Dodgers Ride Chesbro's Complete Game to Series Win Over Expos

Behind a brilliant complete game from Jack Chesbro, the Los Angeles Dodgers secured a 4–2 win over the Montreal Expos on Wednesday to clinch the series.

Kiddo Davis gave the Dodgers an early boost with a two-run homer in the third, and after the Expos tied it on solo shots from Brett Boone and a fielder’s choice RBI by Omar Vizquel, the Dodgers responded in the bottom of the sixth.

Joe Carter’s RBI double and Bill Skowron’s RBI single put L.A. back in front, and Chesbro took it from there. The veteran righty went the distance, allowing just two runs on six hits while striking out seven.

Skowron led the offense with two hits and a run scored, while Davis delivered the big swing from the nine-spot. The Dodgers drew six walks and played clean defense once again.

For Montreal, Sam Rice and Gil McDougald each had two hits, but Lew Burdette took the loss after surrendering four runs in six innings.

Dodgers Series MVP: Joe Carter

Joe Carter was the catalyst for the Dodgers’ comeback efforts and late-inning heroics throughout the three-game set. The veteran outfielder went 4-for-10 with 4 RBIs, including a game-changing two-run double in Game 1’s wild fourth inning and the go-ahead RBI double in Game 3’s decisive sixth. His timely hitting helped L.A. erase deficits and secure momentum in both of their wins. Steady at the plate and clutch in key moments, Carter proved invaluable in pushing the Dodgers past the Expos.
